California’s Highway 1 Closure

|
What happened?
Due to the heavy rains that hit California throughout winter, one stretch of the scenic Highway 1 is closed. The whole area between Palo Colorado Road and Ragged Point that covers a total of 63 miles (see map below) is closed to vehicles until further notice. Roads are blocked by mudslides and debris and some bridges are about to collapse, being pushed out on the cliffs during heavy storms.
How does this affect me and my clients?
California is making every effort to restore this stretch of Highway One but due to the extent of the damage, it will most likely be closed this spring and summer. Most hotels offered to clients are located in areas not affected by the damages. Clients will be able to use the Highway 101 (marked in blue on the map). For clients doing the tour of the Hearst Castle Mansion, this is still doable. At the junction 228, they need to exit the freeway and head towards Cambria.
Now what?
All you need to know is to inform your clients and make sure that you didn’t book them any accommodations in the Big Sur area. Stay tuned for more news!
Don't forget, Hearst Castle, San Simeon and San Luis Obispo are still easily accessible and worth a stop!
