James Bondille musikaali?

Luxurylaunches:

AFTER 25 ODD MOVIES, BRITISH SUPERSPY JAMES BOND WILL GET A MUSICAL TOO

James Bond has made the unlikely transition from a spy on Her Majesty’s Secret Service to star of his own musical! Playbill has reported that a musical based on the iconic spy is currently being prepared for Broadway or Las Vegas. The production will have an original storyline inspired by the 14 James Bond books penned by Ian Fleming.

Merry Saltzman, the daughter of Bond film producer Harry Saltzman, stated that her company Placeholder Productions had secured the rights for a stage adaptation of Bond titled James Bond: The Musical. She also revealed that the production will have a book by novelist Dave Clark and music and lyrics by country composer Jay Henry Weisz.

No cast has been announced for the project as yet, but producers stated that it would feature “several Bond villains, plus some new ones.” We’re already intrigued.

THE GUARDIAN -lehti puolestaan sanoo, että Merry Saltzmanilla ei ole oikeuksia:

It captured the imagination of fans longing for a return to the era of a more light-hearted 007 but had fans of Daniel Craig’s furrow-browed super-spy scratching their heads in confusion. Now it’s been revealed that plans for an all-singing, all-dancing James Bond musical are unlikely to be moving forward because its producers do not have the rights.

Reports last week suggested Merry Saltzman, daughter of late Bond producer Harry Saltzman, was behind plans for the stage take on Britain’s dapper secret agent. Producers told Playbill.com the project would feature an original storyline with “several Bond villains, plus some new ones”. Saltzman herself told the site production schedules and trial runs had been set for Broadway or Las Vegas openings in 2017, and revealed the musical would feature a brand new “Bond girl”.

But Bond rights holder Danjaq, the holding firm for production company Eon, poured cold water on the claims in a new joint Facebook post with studio MGM. “Danjaq LLC and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc confirm they have not licensed any rights to Merry Saltzman or her production company to create a James Bond musical,” read the post on the official James Bond page. “Danjaq and MGM jointly control all live stage rights in the Bond franchise, and therefore no James Bond stage show may be produced without their permission.”

Together with Albert R Broccoli, Harry Salztman brought the Bond movies to the big screen in the early 1960s as a hands-on producer, beginning with 1962’s Dr No and running all the way up until 1973’s Live and Let Die. He sold his 50% stake in Danjaq to United Artists Corporation in 1975 due to numerous financial difficulties, and after falling out with Broccoli.

The 24th official Bond movie, Spectre, is due to hit cinemas on 6 November. Sam Mendes’s second stint in the director’s chair stars Daniel Craig in his fourth outing as 007, with double Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz as likely villain Franz Oberhauser, newcomers Monica Bellucci, Léa Seydoux and Stephanie Sigman as the film’s trio of “Bond girls”, and the returning Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw as the new M, Moneypenny and Q, respectively. This time around, Bond is due to visit Mexico CityRome and Sölden in the Austrian Alps.
