NYC & Company features the Meatpacking District as the next spotlight in Neighborhood x Neighborhood

—Neighborhood Campaign Encourages Exploration of Attractions, Shops, Restaurants, Hotels, Restaurants and More—

New York City (September 5, 2014) — NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced the Meatpacking District as the next Neighborhood x Neighborhood feature. Owing its name to the many New York City meatpacking plants that once called the neighborhood home, the Meatpacking District has retained its historical character and cobblestone streets. Now known for its fashionable shops, quality restaurants and trendy nightlife scene, the cutting-edge neighborhood is conveniently accessible by the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E and L subway lines. For more information on all there is to see and do in the Meatpacking District, visit nycgo.com/nxn.

“This month we are excited to highlight and encourage visitation to one of New York City’s most vibrant and fashionable neighborhoods, the Meatpacking District,” said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company. “Full of history, delicious restaurants, popular attractions, bustling shops, stylish hotels and more, the Meatpacking District is an exciting addition to any New York City visit.”

Neighborhood x Neighborhood: The Essential Guide to NYC

New York City is made up of five distinct boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. The Neighborhood x Neighborhood initiative spotlights the affordability and accessibility of these diverse communities, including areas that have seen new hotel development in recent years. Neighborhoods and featured highlights are chosen in collaboration with community leaders and with consideration of NYC & Company’s members.

In order to continue to grow New York City’s tourism industry, Neighborhood x Neighborhood targets repeat visitors, intrepid first-time visitors and New Yorkers seeking new adventures here in their home city. The campaign was designed to highlight the diversity of offerings in New York City’s five boroughs, encourage exploration in areas outside traditional tourist locations and generate economic activity in the featured neighborhoods.

Neighborhood x Neighborhood is produced by NYC & Company and its Presenting Sponsor, Santander Bank, N.A. The sponsorship includes production of taxi videos each month, bus stop shelters and street-pole banners highlighting the selected neighborhoods.
